The Story Behind Min’s Very Special Pepper
The origin of the sauce dates back approximately 40 years to when I first met my husband. Each visit to his home revealed a unique flavour in his mother’s curry, prompting me to enquire about the secret behind its delightful taste. She attributed this exceptional flavour to her homemade pepper sauce. Consequently, she began preparing a large jar for me every month.

One day, while she was on holiday in Trinidad, I attempted to make a curry. My young daughters enjoyed the dish but noted that something essential was missing. I explained that it was indeed their grandmother’s hot pepper sauce that was absent, a key ingredient I typically included in my curries but had run out of. My daughters insisted that I learn to prepare this pepper sauce, especially since their grandmother was planning to move to Trinidad permanently.

Thus, I took the initiative to learn the recipe from my mother-in-law, which she had inherited from her own mother in Trinidad, making this pepper sauce recipe over a century old. I have personally been crafting it for the past 40 years, initially making it for my colleagues at work who quickly became enamored with its flavour and frequently placed orders. This enthusiastic response inspired me to pursue the idea of distributing it commercially, leading to its availability on store shelves nationwide.
